When it comes to initiating an erotic act, we all know how to get prepared. The kisses, the foreplay, using protection etc. all of this is something we are confident about. But do you know what to do once the action between the sheets is over? Do you know how to take care of your body afterwards?
These are some of the steps you need to remember to do after having sex.
1. Keep it clean
The commonest thing is to go for a shower. But you just stick to cleaning your genital area. Always use mild soap and water to clean the area around your genitals as harsh soaps can cause some serious damage.
Since our urethra is closer to the genitals, it may get infected during sex, more so in females. So once you have finished the act, excuse yourself and go to the washroom and pee! Even few drops of passing the urine will be enough, as all you need to do is push out whatever may have gotten inside the urinary tract.
3. Hydrate yourself with water
Sex is definitely an exercise and you need to keep yourself hydrated post the act! Water is amazing for your body to help hydrate after all the sweating. This also allows you to have more water content to pee and remove whatever bacteria or infections that could be blocking your urinary tract.
4. Watch for condom breakage
Always check the condom for breakage. If the condom breaks and you are not in the baby-having stage then the best thing to do is contact your gynaecologist. She will suggest the right morning after pill and the things you need to do to be careful. If you had sex with a new partner or if it was a one night stand, then along with the rest, you should also get yourself tested for STD’s or at least have a talk with your doctor about it.
5. Watch for Red Flags
After sex, if you experience discharge or bleeding or any kind of pain that persists, consult a doctor. Any sign of abnormal bleeding after sex or smelly discharge —it could be a sign of infection or a serious problem like cancer of the cervix. Seek medical advice immediately.
6. Comfortable clothing
After sex, make yourself comfortable with loose clothing. Cotton clothing is an ideal choice. This is because, after getting all the action, when everything is all hot and sweaty, bacteria and yeast find their playground. So to avoid catching anything, wear comfortable clothing with fabrics that allow air to pass through easily.

Regular pelvic floor exercises or Kegels help you tighten your pelvic muscles in both females and males. Pelvic floor muscles contract during an orgasm and a strong muscle ensure intense orgasms. You can do them with or without special equipment ( for females). Kegels can be done anywhere anytime but on an empty bladder and preferably a sitting position.
How to do?
Identify the muscles that help you urinate, and now pretend that you have to stop urination in between the flow. Now, hold it for a minimum of 5 seconds and release. Do it in sets of 4 or 5 and as many times as you want. Don’t hold your breath, push down or tighten your stomach, butt or thigh muscles.
Kegels are one of most famous sexercises. They strengthen the PC and perineal muscles, which can help with erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation in males. They help with better bladder control and vaginal tightening in females.
